Front cover of CD
It’s been a labor of love, and has been in production since spring 2008, and here it is…..the release of my second album, ÉLAN.
Although it has taken many months for this to come about, it’s been a wonderful journey. There were many incredibly talented artists who joined me on this project and made this possible:
Jamshied Sharifi (producer), Megan Gould (Associate Producer, String Arranger, Violin/Viola), Mavrothi Kontanis (oud), Riaz Khabirpour (Guitar), Erik Friedlander (Cello), Shane Shanahan (Percussion and Drums), Zeb Gould (Guitar) and Marika Hughes (Cello).
The album was recorded by Sam Crawford at The Looking Glass Studios, NYC, and was mixed by Scott Noll at Midtown Sound Studios, NYC. It was mastered by Andy VanDette at Masterdisk, NYC.
Track list:
1. Ghoghaye Setaregan (Dance of the Stars)
2. Arezooha (Wishes)
3. Gonjeshgake Ashi Mashi (Little Sparrow)
4. Prelude to Ay Rilikh
5. Ay Rilikh (Separation)
6. Evleri Vaar (To Bemaan)
7. Biya Bare Safar Bandim (Let’s Be on Our Way)
8. Peyke Sahari (Messenger of Dawn)
9. Bia Bia Benshin (Come Sit by Me)
10. Ay Vatan (Oh, My Homeland)

Monika Jalili’s goal is to expose the global music audience at large to the beauty of Iranian poetry and music by presenting a slice of non-classical music of Iran that is rarely heard by non-Iranians. The selected songs and arrangements are interpreted by a Western ear and accessible to a wide audience. To that end, she requests that when possible, Iranians coming to the concert please proudly invite a friend or neighbor to join them to hear this beautiful music.

We are pleased to announce the release of Monika’s 2nd CD, Élan.
ÉLAN is Monika Jalili’s long-awaited second album, following her highly acclaimed debut CD MONIKA JALILI : NOORSAAZ. With ÉLAN, Monika continues her journey exploring and revitalizing the beautiful music and poetry of Iran from the 1940s through the 1970s. Her selections are songs of love, illuminated by stirring, uplifting and sometimes haunting melodies, and performed by masterful musicians. The original Persian and Azeri lyrics are enhanced by Monika’s translations into English and French.
